New Life House was established in 1985 in San Pedro, California by Perry Pettacia to serve men in recovery.
An alcoholic himself, Perry had been through a recovery center that emphasized identifying and modifying self-sabotaging behavior. He opened New Life House with a vision of not just helping men abstain from alcohol and drug dependence, but rather transforming the lifestyles of alcoholics and addicts and teaching the life skills necessary to succeed.
At that time, only adult men were entering New Life House. In the early 1990’s many families of teenagers and young men approached New Life House to help address their son’s addictions. At the time, long-term, resident services for teens and young adults were unavailable. Soon after admitting the younger people it became apparent that the disparity in their emotional ages, social skills, and life experiences were significant enough to require different approaches with each group of men for sobriety. In 1994, Perry separated the age groups and opened a second sober living house for men in Los Angeles to accommodate the older adults. New Life House’s success in working with young men began to take off once the guys began living with their own peers.
Kathy Riddle.: Worth every penny and then some. The most amazing people and best program there is, hands down. Couldn’t recommend more.
Robyn.: This is the premier program in the United States for your sons recovery. It is a very structured and long-term program which is the only way for success. The young men learn discipline, responsibility, accountability, honesty and integrity. It is much more than a mere treatment facility. The young men grow up in this program to become fully self-sufficient, functioning and healthy adults. They do a lot of work in their peer groups reflecting and looking in the mirror at why they turn to drugs. The program looks at emotional and spiritual sobriety not just physical sobriety which by itself is not sustainable. They look at their old narrative the lies they told themselves and create a new story and a new future. It is truly a miracle in every way. The mentoring continues long after they leave the house. I am forever grateful for New Life House for giving me my son back, sober, mature, and fully self-sufficient and most of all, happy with himself, his life and his future.
Kent Mitchell.: With honor I express my gratitude to New Life House for their support, understanding, love and care for our son Patrick. Exacerbated, as I witnessed the grip of deadly addiction stealing the heart and soul of this precious young man’s life. With an overwhelming feeling of helplessness, having previously tried numerous recovery options without success, I was lovingly guided to New Life House. New life was transparent in letting us know the journey towards lasting recovery is not a quick fix, which I appreciated. The commitment and depth of their programs unwavering foundation, which are remarkably effective, produce true champions in recovery. Results: Today Patrick is 21+ months sober, fully engaged in supporting the recovery community, a high school graduate, a newly licensed driver, a full-time employee, and exploring his bright future, with humility, respect, under the guidance of New Life. Bottomline: New Life walks the way they talk. With respect and gratitude, Kent
